This guide is for people coming from the previous version of Playlab. It will be retired in August 2026 once everyone has migrated. For current Playlab guidance, see Learn on Your Own or Feature Documentation.
How to use this guide
Each comparison below shows the previous flow on the left and the current flow on the right. Where the verb stayed the same, you will see only minor differences. Where the verb changed, the current column links to a full guide. Start with what’s new, then scan the side-by-sides.What’s new (no prior equivalent)
These workflows did not exist before.Use an app across multiple classes
Add the same app to several workspaces without remixing. Activity stays segmented per class.
Workspace member detail
Click a member to see all their activity, conversations, flags, and apps built.
Share with individuals, groups, or orgs
Type a name, set a permission, send. Works for one person, a group, or an entire organization.
Collections
Curated sets of apps you can share like a single resource. Updates propagate automatically.
Workspace building permissions
Decide if students can build, see each other, or share beyond the workspace.
Centralized org monitoring
Org-level dashboard with flags, activity, and member detail across all workspaces.
Creating an app
You can now start a new app from either the org level or inside a workspace. The build flow itself is unchanged. See Creating an app.
Collaborating on an app
Editor access is now per-app. A peer you add as an Editor can edit only that app. They do not get access to the rest of your workspace. See Collaborating on an app (Editor model).
Publishing an app
You can now publish from the Share modal, and you can share an app with specific people without making it public. See Publishing your app.
Inviting users
From the organization view
Playlab also adds a one-click invite link path. From Members, click Create Invite Link, set the permission, and click Create & Copy Link. See Inviting users to your org.
From a workspace view
The verbs are slightly more consistent. The flow is otherwise the same. See Adding members to a workspace.
Setting up and managing a workspace
Workspace creation now adds two things: a description field and building permissions toggles. Workspaces also accept existing apps, so you can build a class environment without recreating apps. See Creating and managing a workspace.
